Kate Bush & Dante Alighieri - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)

"If I only could, I'd be running up that hill.
If I only could, I'd be running up that hill."

It doesn't hurt me.
Do you want to feel how it feels?
Do you want to know that it doesn't hurt me?
Do you want to hear about the deal that I'm making?
You, it's you and me.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
If I only could, oh...

You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...

You, It's you and me,
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

"C'mon, baby, c'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh..."

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

And if I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
With no problems.

If I only could
Be running up that hill
With no problems...

After I rested my wearied flesh a while,
I took my way again along the desert slope,
my firm foot always lower than the other.
But now, near the beginning of the steep,
a leopard light and swift
and covered with a spotted pelt
refused to back away from me
but so impeded, barred the way,
that many times I turned to go back down.
Inferno I

John S. Carroll (1904), Inferno 1.32-33 Whatever the hill represents -- Philosophy, or Good Government, or an ideal of Holiness -- Dante found himself unequal to the task of climbing it. No sooner had he begun the ascent than his path was barred in turn by three wild beasts -- a Panther, a Lion, and a She-wolf. The obvious reference is to Jer. v. 6 -- 'Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.' The exact symbolism, however, is not easy to determine .....

Thanks Dante

  1. yeah pretty sure you dont know what your talking about
kate bush's song is about how jesus being crucified by romans put a wound in the heart of mankind,
and how if she could she would have freed him from that fate
    D U H
    otherwise known as obviously
i really do suggest you romans get over the fact that your pope is your emperor and that your empire is responsible for the death of christ not the jews
it is quite pathetic that people dedicate their whole lives to a cause they believe to represent the person that was actually murdered by the people they follow politically and spiritually
you are the descendants of the murderers who killed him
    not the saviour

for god shall not be found in any temple for those with faith
but shall appear in every overturned leaf and everywhere you look including yourself

those who work to define and separate god from our reality are in fact the demons that would have us outside of his kingdom
and the fools that think they do gods work have no faith that the work exists without its dignified status
