His recent public statement that priests should be allowed to marry is very telling:

'It is not an issue of ‘basic dogmatic beliefs of divine origin’ such as abortion or euthanasia, and is ‘within the scope of the new Pope’ to alter. It would require a change in Canon Law, relieving priests of their vow of celibacy.
