Tanker truck ploughs into pedestrians leaving two fighting for life in hospital before fleeing the scene - as police hunt for the driver

Two young men are fighting for life in hospital after a tanker truck ploughed into four men and a woman in Melbourne. The truck veered off the bitumen near the intersection of City Road and Power Street in Southbank at about 7pm on Thursday. It smashed into a traffic light and the pedestrians, in their 20s and 30s, before the driver fled the scene. Emergency crews arrived to find two people trapped inside the car after the traffic light fell on it. About 15 heavy rescue firefighters freed the pair. Two men and a woman were taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with lower body injuries. One was in a critical condition and the other two were in a serious but stable condition, Ambulance Victoria said in a statement. Source
