4 killed, 50 burnt in BM Container Depot explosion, fire in Ctg 

The death toll in the BM Container Depot explosion and fire has increased to four while at least 50 people, including police and fire service personnel, have sustained burn injuries in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram. Talking to reporters, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram Ilias Hossain confirmed the matter of total four deaths today (June 5, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent. Earlier, Rajib Palit, assistant director of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), had confirmed the deaths of two people in the incident.Talking to The Daily Star, Ashekur Rahman, in-charge of CMCH police camp, said over 50 people were taken to different units of the CMCH and more people were being brought to the hospital with severe burn injuries.The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. The ICU bed at Chattogram Medical College Hospital is full. Therefore, in case of a crisis, the Divisional Director (Health) Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir has given instructions to shift patients to the ICU of the Chittagong General Hospital in Anderkilla, his personal assistant Shahadat Shakil said. Locals and CMCH sources said some policemen and fire service men were also among the injured. The fire broke out at BM Container Limited in Shitalpur area around 10pm last night (June 4), said a duty officer of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defence control room at Agrabad. On information, 25 firefighting units rushed to the spot and were trying to douse the blaze, the officer told The Daily Star. Source
