Nice attacker named as French-Tunisian Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel
PARIS, July 15. /TASS/. The man who drove a truck through the crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice has been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old French Tunisian, local newspaper Nice Matin said on Friday.
At least 84 people were killed and hundreds injured as his 25-tonne lorry ploughed at full speed through the crowd who had gathered to watch fireworks display over the Nice seafront.
Earlier reports said Bouhlel was known to police due to some petty crimes, but was not previously linked to any radical groups.
The tragedy in Nice occurred eight months after 130 people were killed in coordinated terrorist attacks on a stadium, bars and a rock concert in Paris.
France declared a three-day national mourning period following the Bastille Day attacks.
