A Prayer Of The Particular Articles Of The Passion Of Our Lord
CAULLERY, Louis de
Crucifixion
1600-20
O God which for the redemption of the world wouldst be born, circumcised, reproached of the Jews, betrayed of Judas the traitor by a kiss, tied in bands as an innocent lamb led unto sacrifice, & in the sight of Annas, Caiphas, Pilate, & Herod unseemly presented, accused by false witnesses, tormented by whipping and upbraiding, defiled with spittings, crowned with thorns, buffeted, smitten with a reed, covered on the face, stripped of clothes, fastened to the cross with nails, lifted up on the cross, reputed among thieves, given to drink gall and vinegar, & wounded with a spear: thou O Lord by these most holy pains, which I an unworthy sinner do reverently remember, and by the holy cross and death deliver me from where thou broughtest the thief with thee crucified, who with the Father and Holy Ghost livest and reignest world without end. Amen.
